Our focus centered around creating a better waste management plan for Houston. There is so much organic and product waste that could be put to better use than just dumping in a landfill. We first looked at the problem associated with throwing waste into landfills and constantly creating new product waste. The effects of such wasteful behavior has resulted in contribution to climate change through new product creation as well as landfill emissions and also to leakage in landfills that could potentially threaten drinking water. Thus, finding a solution to minimize waste, both in organic and product streams, would help solve both theses problems and make Houston a more sustainable city.

Project Abstract

The project was a result of our own interest, but it was also for the Introduction to Energy and Sustainability class at the University of Houston. In the class, we learned about sustainability around the world and how much the US has to go. Additionally, we learned about the variety of energy solutions available. The class inspired us to incorporate both sustainability and energy in our project focus.
